UNISON, UK

UNISON is the largest trade union for public sector workers in the UK with over 1.3 million members.  UNISON's previous headquarters, designed and built in the early 1970's were no longer able to meet the future requirements of the union. A new ten storey building designed by leading architects, Squire and Partners, is now home to UNISON's 340 staff.

The top floor of the new building is occupied by an impressive conference chamber.  The chamber has full height windows on three sides offering fantastic views of famous London landmarks including St. Paul's Cathedral and the new Olympic Stadium.

The AV facilities in the chamber were specified by Mark Johnson Consultants and installed by Focus 21. Forming the heart of the AV infrastucture is the DIS DCS 6000 system.  The 53 delegate units are a unique DIS elliptical design, made from brushed aluminium and fitted flush with the desk tops.  All of the delegate units feature a single gooseneck microphone and dual-channel selectors for use when simultaneous interpretation is required.  The two interpreter booth's are on a lower floor of the building but the use of an ambient microphone prevents interpreters from feeling isolated from proceedings in the room. Control of the DIS system is via an AMX touch panel which also allows management of the other parts of the AV system as well as the room's curtains and lighting.
