Every year The Norwegian Nobel Committee has the task of selecting the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and to organize the annual Nobel events in Oslo in December. The Nobel committee of five is appointed by the Storting (the Norwegain parliament) but works very independently without any political intervention.
The name of the award winner is always published on October 10. In 2004 the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Wangari Maathai for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.
The Prize Award Ceremony takes place every year December 10th at the City Hall of Oslo, but the Nobel Days start already the day before with a press conference at the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Oslo. Half an hour before the actual ceremony Save the Children arranges a meeting with children. The day closes with a direct CNN program interviewing the prize winner. The day after the ceremony there is a Peace Prize Performance of the Oslo Schools at the Oslo City Hall.
DIS equipment such as conference microphones, simultaneous interpretation and infrared language distribution equipment is used during the entire event, and Informationsteknik Scandinavia in Oslo has now for serveral years been in charge of this audio visual rental job including project planning and technical engineering.
